Looking for Leisure FOWC : ‘leisure’

I have always been Looking for Leisure.

Leisure to read,

And leisure to write.

Leisure to watch autumn leaves fall to the ground,

To watch kittens at play,

And birds building their nests.

Leisure to see my friends,

Or at least call them everyday.

Leisure to pick berries from hedgerows,

And fruit from trees.

Leisure to fill my basket with roses,

Then arrange them lovingly.

Leisure to sail the world on a luxury cruise,

Reclining on the ship’s deck, sipping tea.

Leisure to live life to the fullest,

While I can still, walk and hear and see!

NOTE: I was answering a set of questions on another blog post earlier today. One of them was about favourite leisure time activities.

Although I have several hobbies, life has not allowed me to indulge in them as often as I would like. Between post-graduation, career and family life, my adult life has been quite busy.

As a child, the summer and winter breaks never seemed long enough. Weekends always seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. All my life, it seems, I have been looking for leisure.

  1. Leisure time is so therapeutic and yet most of us are too busy to really relax. Maybe it’s a guilt thing? I always feel there is something else I should be doing. 😩

      1. I am and I do. Lately I try to tell myself to take it easy more. Peace and happiness are proving to be more rewarding than completion. I am learning… 🙂

    1. I don’t know if it is guilt or a sort of greed that causes me to overschedule and overcommit.
By spreading myself too thin I often end up sabotaging my own leisure time.
But I think recognising these behaviour patterns is the first step in correcting them.

Thank you for your insightful comments.

  2. Lovely poem conveying what I’m sure a lot of people feel in the rat race we call life. Love, love, love the picture with the hammock. I can picture myself getting alone, quiet time and contemplating life, or reading. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you so much.
I am no poet. I just manage a bit of free verse sometimes about something that I feel strongly about.

I love the hammock picture too. If I could sit thete with a favourite book and perhaps a thermos of tea or coffee life would be complete.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Beautifully penned! I also felt the same when I was a child, “As a child, the summer and winter breaks never seemed long enough. Weekends always seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. “
