Queen of Questions, 2019, #3

Theresa, The Haunted Wordsmith creates fun challenges for us . This Queen of Questions #3, is the latest in her series of questions. You can view Theresa’s original post by clicking here.
Today’s questions are about food. I love talking, reading and writing about food so I am going to have fun with these.

  • What is your favorite chocolate dessert?

  • This is so difficult to answer. I have so many favourite chocolate desserts. How do I choose just one?

  • Molten lava cake served with ascoop of vanilla ice cream is really to die for. The cake is made in little individual serving sizes. It is chocolate sponge, and haas a filling of melted chocolate.

  • When you dig into the warm cake, oodles of chocolate ooze all over the cake and the accompanying ice cream. Usually there is more chocolate sauce drizzled over the ice cream.

  • Many restaurants serve this cake, though you have to order it with time to spare since it is baked fresh. My daughter has a recipe for it and sometimes makes it for us at home.

  • Where do you go first in the grocery store?

  • I usually head for the baked goods section of my local store. This section houses eggs too. So I begin with bread and eggs; I think these are two staples one can’t do without.

  • You win three minutes of free shopping in the grocery store with an empty cart…what do you fill it with?

  • I rush to the imported fruit section and fill it with exotic fruit from all over the world.

  • Rambutans, pineapple and dragon fruit from the Far East

  • Oranges from Egypt and South Africa

  • Avocados, kiwi fruit and different kinds of grapes.

  • What is your favorite fruit and how do you like to eat it?

  • This question is again as dificult as the chocolate dessert one. I love many different kinds of fruit.

  • But if pressed to choose I would probably go for bananas. They are so yummy and healthful.

bananas

  • bananas are nature’s fast food. You can have them on the go. Since they come individually wrapped by mother nature, it is so easy to carry them in a back pack or hand bag.

  • With an average of about 100 calories per banana, soluble fibre, vitamins and minerals, they are the ideal snack for school or work. bananas also contain serotonin, which is a feel good chemical so they are good for your mental health too.

  • You go to a magic cafe where plates fill with whatever you request…what do you get?

  • Your magic cafe reminds me of a story by Enid Blyton that I read as a child. It was called The Magic Wishing Table. All you had to  do was rap twice on the table and say the name of the dish you wanted and it would appear by magic.

  • Coming to the magic cafe, I would like to order magic dishes that would be super yummy yet zero calorie. Imagine rich chocolate desserts or creamy pasta in white sauce which were zero calorie. Ah…… if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

  • How do you like your fish?

  • Depends what kind of fish we are talking about.

  • If it is salmon, I like it pan fried (no smoked stuff for me)

salmon veg

  • If it is haddock, I would like it deep fried with a coating of crumbs or batter.

  • If we are talking about sole, then I would love it grilled or baked and served with a lemon sauce.

  • Do you eat jello (what is your favorite flavor)?

  • Yes, I would love to if I could afford the calories. My favourite flavours are the citrus ones, orange or lemon.

  • What is the most, ahem, “adult” food you can think of?

  • Porridge or oatmeal.

  • What food do you eat that might put you in the “old” age?

  • Toast dunked in warm milk or hot soup. This is ideal comfort food

  • if you have a cold, but it is somewhat in the “old” or “infant” bracket.

  • Mall food courts…yes, no, where do you eat?

  • I don’t mind mall food courts if they are not too crowded. But I prefer “proper” restaurants. If the weather is suitable, outdoor cafes and restaurants are lovely, maybe overlooking a river or other scenic view.

  • For dinner, rooftop barbecues are nice too.

  • Even at home, we sometimes take our food outside on the verandah or porch, weather permitting.

I hope my answers don’t seem too long, but I tend to get carried away when talking about food.
