There’s Always Room At The Top

Soon after finishing law school, Kelly had landed a job as an associate at a really prestigious law firm. But after about six months she started feeling restless. She was one of several other associates and she did not find the work challenging any more.

She complained about this to her father, who had always guided her throughout her academic career. ” Kelly, my girl,” he said, “if you’re bored, set yourself a challenge. Move on and move up.”

“How can I move up?” Kelly replied. “The position above associate is partner, and there are so many associates, some even senior to me. How can I possibly move up?”

“kelly, m’dear, there’s always room at the top. Give it your best shot!” said her Dad.

So Kelly upped her game from the very next day. She would always be the first to arrive and the last to leave the office. Kelly was always the first to volunteer for any challenging work.; and always ready to fill in for colleagues who were away for any reason.

Her hard work paid off much sooner than she expected. One of the senior partners retired and Kelly was chosen above many senior associates to fill his place. She also had the distinction of being her firm’s first female partner.

As she moved into her new office on the executive floor, her father’s voice rang in her ears. “There’s always room at the top.”
