“How do you manage or deal with stress? Is there a specific strategy or approach that you’ve found to be particularly effective?”
Stress is very much a part of human life. Although some see it as a fairly modern affliction, it has been around for time immemorial. I am sure the prehistoric hunter/gatherers as well as the warriors through history must have faced stress and anxiety.
The way you deal with stress is almost as personal as your colour choices or your food preferences. Hence today’s FPQ is highly relevant. Some people when stressed out cannot bring themselves to eat anything. Others (like me) tend to stress eat, picking up unwanted pounds if the period of anxiety is prolonged.
Over time, you learn to manage stress and develop your own coping mechanisms. In my case, I have found that little things that relax me go a long way in helping me cope:
- a cup of tea and a murder mystery (Agatha Christie’s preferably)
- a funny show
- a chat with a friend
- a mini shopping spree
- upbeat music (Uptown Girl by Billy Joel maybe)
I put down some coping mechanisms that I have found useful and have also seen others using in a blog post : 7 Little Stress Busters. You can check it out here.
Stress is something best avoided however, and I keep trying to collect tips on how to do this. I have listed some in my post 5 Easy Ways to Avoid the Stress of Modern Living which you can read here.
