The Impossible Dream #SoCS Nov. 16/19

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “dream.” Use it as a noun or a verb; use any way you’d like. Enjoy!

On this lazy Saturday morning, I read the notification for the prompt above. As I slowly savoured my first cup of tea and mulled over the word ” dream ” I was reminded of a song I learned at school.

The song is called “The impossible dream” , I don’t know the singer or the origin of the song. Surprisingly I can remember most of it the way I learned it way back in 1980 or 1981

I am going to put down the lyrics below. Let’s see if any of you can identify it. I know that I could just search the web for it, but isn’t it much more fun asking my friends ?

So here goes ;

To dream the impossiible dream,

To fight the unbeatable foe,

To bear with unbearable sorrow,

To run where the brave dare not go.

This is my quest. To follow that star.

No matter how hopeless, No matter how far.

To fight for the right

Without question or pause.

To be willing to march into hell For a heavenly cause.

And I know, if I’ll only be true

To this glorious quest,

That my heart will be peaceful and calm

When I “m laid to my rest.

And the world will be better for this;

That one man torn and covered with scars,

Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,

To reach the unreachable star !

That is quite a long piece to remember after something like three decades. But then, that’s remote memory for you.

Now where did I put my glasses ?
