My Tuesday Peeve

The Monday Peeve kitty

I get really irritated by people who make a habit of saying one thing and doing quite another. Over the weekend I had the misfortune of running into just such a person. She was quite an educated lady(an academic) with several university degrees.

During the conversation she said more than once that she was not one to blow her own trumpet. Yet she casually let slip what a hot shot her father had been, what a privileged upbringing she had and what a luxurious lifestyle she enjoyed.

What rankled me further that she began criticising another lady who was eminent in her field. She said that this lady who was at school with her used to hitch rides off her and make her pick up her lunch tab. Hardly surprising that she had begun this tirade saying that she never spoke ill of anyone.

  1. Grrrr! I know what you mean. Someone in my life has done that recently, and about something so ridiculously obvious too. But she’s such a good friend in other ways that I’m shrugging it off.

  2. The best way I found, of dealing with that sort, is to get up and walk off. When questioned, tell the bad mouther/name dropper twerp exactly why you’re leaving. Because you don’t care for talking behind others’ backs and you have better ways to spend your time. I got an apology when I did that once.

  3. Wow, I think I encountered the same blogger who commentted on my series the other day.
My first reaction was… “Are you kidding me?”
It was about mental health and managing/coping with the holiday season.
I got a reply that was like the munchkins singing in the Wizzard of Oz.
