Blogging Insights #10 — Looking back at your blog posts.

Retrospective Introspection

I read/heard somewhere that reading your own work is a form of narcissism. I would much rather call it self-evaluation or self-assessment.

When I was in kindergarten we were given spelling tests. When we were done, our teacher would make us swap our work with others. We would then correct each other’s work and award a score. Later, in higher classes (especially math), some teachwers would let us mark our own work when they gave us the answrs. As I began this post, I was reminded of this and I think that re-evaluating your work is a bit like that.

How old is your current blog/website? 

Do you ever look back at your site i.e. read through your old posts?

How long ago did you update your about page ?

If you were to start a new blog today, what would you do differently?

How old is your current blog/website? 

This is my first blog  and it will be two years old in January.

Do you ever look back at your site i.e. read through your old posts?

Not very often, but I would like to, if I had the time. I think some typos always manage to sneak in when you’re not looking, no matter how careful you are. I would correct them. 

How long ago did you update your about page ?

I updated my About page a few months after I first wrote it. A couple of days ago, I thought about updating it. On reading it, I discovered that my blogging “philosophy”  and persona was still quite the same so I let it be.

If you were to start a new blog today, what would you do differently?

If I were to begin afresh today, there are many things that I would do differently. I would obsess far less about my lack of technical skills. I wasted a lot of time reading about things like plug ins only to discover that my plan did not support them. I could have spent this time reading and commenting on blogs that were similar to the one I intended to have.

  8. I tend to do too many posts every day, so I’m answering in the comments instead.

    I started my blog in September 2013.
    I often revisit earlier posts, either linkages, some reblogging as the theme is current, but more to compare how my style has changed.Length certainly has and I try to keep my posts to around 400 words now rather than 1000 plus!
    I’ve just checked and my last About update was January 2018, shortly before my Mum died.
    If I started blogging now, I wouldn’t know anything about how it works, follows, likes, comments etc, so would probably still write too long pieces. As for content, it would still be home, the dog, our life, food, diet hits and misses, poetry and budgets!

  17. I started my blog in October 2010 inspired by the passing of my dear aunt Eleanor.

    I sometimes do look back at some of my older posts, many of them I was proud of but few people followed me and they were virtually unseen, so some of them I have reblogged. I actually think I am a better blogger now though which I would make sense as I have more experience.

    I have not updated my about page in awhile, but it is sort of generic and in a sense hasn’t changed but I could create a successor that is more updated.

    If I started a new blog today I might purchase the site so it doesn’t have ads, some of the ads on my page I don’t like and people have commented on them, but of course I don’t have control of the ads. I have been really fortunate to have met online some awesome bloggers, from all over. Special people all over the world, wordpress should have a convention and invite bloggers to attend – have prizes, talks, and educational sessions. It would be cool.
