You are on your own for the holidays. You have invited no one and received no invitations. Maybe you are stuck in a foreign country on your own or maybe you have recently become single. Whatever your reason for being on your own, this time is to be thoroughly enjoyed.
You can think of it as solitary confinement or you can have the time of your life. The choice is yours.
Here are a few suggestions to help you along:
1. Review your Bucket List
Your time is your own. This is such a great opportunity to make a list of all the wonderful things that you want to do in life. Or maybe you already have a list of places to go and experiences to have. This is a great time to plan that holiday to your dream destination.
2. Catch up on your reading list
Like most of us who like to read and write, you may have a pile of books on your nightstand or a queue of titles on your e reader. This is such a great time to make huge mugs of tea / coffee, snuggle in your favourite armchair and just read.
3. Binge watch TV shows and movies.
So many times someone tells you about this great show on Netflix or Amazon prime and you think you would love to watch it if only you had the time. This is a golden opportunity to binge watch
4. Catch up on your sleep
This one is a no-brainer. The best and easiest thing to do when you are alone with time on your hands is to make up your sleep deficit.
5. Eat Healthy
The holiday season is a time when people put on extra pounds. The reason for this weight gain are several. There is too much good food around. You might be able to resist the temptation to sample the goodies on your own but when people are egging you on it’s difficult to resist.
“I made your favourite pie– you must have some”
” A little helping won’t make you fat”
“you must build your strength. You work so hard in that office all day”
But on your own, there is no one to lead you astray from the straight and narrow. You can stock up on healthy food choices and stick to them. With so many healthy fast food joints, eating healthy is no longer an effort.
6. Learn something new
With time and opportunity on your hands, this is a really good time to learn something new. There are good YouTube videos that teach you anything under the sun. A new language, craft or DIY are some ideas.
7. Explore your surroundings
This applies especially to people who may be stuck on their own away from home. Walkimg around the area near hotel you might discover something interesting. To use a well worn cliche, the world is your oyster !
Those were only a few ideas. I would love it if you contribute some too.
