You may have seen in many situations, that a new person who is replacing someone in a position is faced with a lot of expectations. The newcomer is constantly measured up against the predecessor and often (if only out of loyalty) found wanting.
“You have big shoes to fill ” is a refrain that you sometimes hear too often. It is intimidating and discouraging. Although I have never been on the receiving end of this kind of situation, I can realise how difficult it must be.
The object of this tirade is to remind people to welcome new colleagues or neighbours with an open mind and not compare them with their predecessors. Each person has unique talents and abilities and you must be given the opportunity to prove them.

I like your refreshing take on this picture. It is good advice to not pre-judge people and take them on merit.
Thanks for being a part of the challenge.

Thank you Sadje.
Pre conceived notions can indeed be harmful.
I am so glad I managed to do this prompt on time.
Did you post a 5 thing’s prompt last Thursday?
I tried to find it but no luck

I posted it on Friday. I won’t be able to do it this Thursday either. Maybe Friday again.

Hi Dr. Tanya! Good job on this piece of artful writing…such a unique perspective. 🙂 I’ve tagged you to take part in Teresa Grab’s latest “Finish the Story” effort. If you’d like to and have time of course. Cheers! 🙂

Thank you Melanie.
I am honoured to be tagged.
Is there a time limit to the challenge?
I am rushed off my feet with some stuff these days and this makes my blogging erratic.

There is a week to complete the story. It’s just asked that you let Teresa know (she’s the hostess) that you need the time. Thanks for being willing to continue a fun story. 🙂

So true! Last year, one of our longest, hardest-working, most valuable, and dearly loved leaders retired. I can only imagine how difficult it’s been for the person who now has the job, and I’ve done my best to be supportive. Your post has motivated me to try a little harder.

That is really good to hear.
At a place I used to work several years ago, a popular senior colleague was transferred somewhere else. The person who replaced him was treated with skepticism and wariness. He turned out to be an even nicer person than the one he had replaced. This post was inspired by this.
