Is It Time To Mask Up Or?

As part of his 24 hour Blog Question Directory, Rory, A Guy Called Bloke, asks us two very practical questions:

1.Are you currently wearing face masks when you go out into public wherever you are in the world?

In my part of the world, Pakistan, it is mandatory to wear masks in public places, offices and shops. All public places like banks and all businesses have put up signs saying “No entry without mask” or ” We do not serve customers without masks”.There are however no fines imposed yet. Most people are complying out of concern for their own safety.

2. what type of masks are you wearing? [As in practical or stylish?]

The masks that are available in shops are either the disposable single use surgical masks or the N95 type that have a vent. These are naturally made only for utility and are mostly white.

Street vendors can be seen selling masks made of cloth. These come in different colours and some are even patterned but I am not sure how safe they are. Of course, any barrier in front of your nose and mouth is better than none, but I am sticking with the conventional drug store types. I would love to have a well made N95 type mask in my favourite colour, fuchsia pink.

Rory ‘s original post asked for “answers below” which probably meant the comments section. I had long -ish answers so I replied in a separate post.

I love this idea of talking about “masking habits”. Do I have your permission to use it in my own post later, Rory?

    1. We don’t have those here in Pakistan yet. We are making do with the disposable ones which turn out to be an expensive option that is bad for the environment too.
The cloth masks that vendors are selling on the street don’t have filters.

I did not realise you could get masks with replaceable filters. Now I will try to find them or improve.

Thanks for reading and for the info.
