Blogging Insights # 38 — Techie or Non Techie ?

Today on Blogging Insights, we discuss the technical aspects of blogging. Maybe the term “technical” is incorrect, but then, I am hopelessly “non-techie”.

TODAY’S QUESTIONS:

How technically savvy are you?

Did you launch and set up your blog on your own or did you need help with it?

Do you feel that it is more important to have a flair for writing  or have good computer skills to be a successful blogger?

MY ANSWERS:

How technically savvy are you?

I am not in the least bit technically savvy. My children still live at home so I depend on them for all my computer stuff. Once I learn something from them, I can keep going on my own after a bit of practice.

Did you launch and set up your blog on your own or did you need help with it?

My daughter did all of it for me. She taught me how to navigate the various parts of my blog very patiently. In the beginning I used to get stuck for hours on end over little things like adding links or images. I would have to wait for her to come back from college and extricate me from whatever muddle I found myself in.

Do you feel that it is more important to have a flair for writing  or have good computer skills to be a successful blogger?

I think the answer to this question varies with the kind of blog.

For business oriented blogs with a lot of products or services to sell, technical know how would be more important. The writing could then take a backseat, being required only for short write ups to promote the products etc.

For blogs like mine and most others that I follow, it is the writing part of it, whether fiction, non-fiction or poetry, that is more important. In these cases, a basic working knowledge of the various programmes required can suffice.

Okay, that was my bit; now I would love to read your views.

Better still, why not write a post of your own about this? Just remember to tag it

  1. I’m not bad with the technical stuff, but I think what is more important for a book review blog is the ability to write well, and to write an analysis what you’ve read, and explain what you liked or didn’t like, and why.
