5 Things You Hate About Summer

The 5 Things tag keeps surfacing on WordPress. I am not sure who first thought of it but I have always found it fun to do. I thought “Why not make it a weekly feature?”

If you participate in a post of your own please tag it #5things.

Here is my contribution to this week’s 5 Things :

5 Things I Hate About Summer

Today’s topic is more relevant to those of us who live in warm climates and get very hot summers. The rest of you, holidaying in these parts of the world might have experienced some of the nuisance that summer can bring.

In Lahore , Pakistan, where I live we have a very long summer. It lasts eight months from April to October and six months are really unbearable.

Here are my pet summer peeves :

 Heat
This one is a no-brainer. Intense heat makes you lethargic and irritable.

Humidity
When heat is accompanied by humidity, temperatures in the thirties Celsius can feel like forty plus. With dry heat, you can be quite comfortable in the shade. Humidity makes you hot as well as sticky.

 Creepy crawlies
Insects and lizards  not just thrive but multiply in the summer months. I absolutely detest both.

Traffic jams
Although traffic jams can take place any time,  whatever the weather, in my opinion they are more irksome in summer. As you are stuck on the road between other cars, the sun  becomes concentrated through the windscreen and windows turning your car into a hothouse.

Hot tempersI believe there are always more traffic accidents and more quarrels when atmospheric temperatures rise above 40 degrees Celsius.
