Rebecca Sharp is the heroine of W. M. Thackeray’s classic novel Vanity Fair. She is an opportunist and schemer who is forced by stringent circumstances to live by her wits. Rebecca manages to worm her way into the affections of the rich and powerful never hesitating to lie or deceive. Quick witted and sharp, she has an incisive tongue that does not spare those who cross her. Despite all her cleverness, she marries for love.
The novel is a fun read although a bit long. However, the gist of it has been caught in a Hollywood movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
