Blogging Insights # 47 — Traffic & Stats

Blog traffic — the views, likes, comments and follows make up your blog statistics. Today’s discussion focuses on how much these contribute to the value of our blogging experience. I touched upon this topic some time ago and you can read that here. Let’s take it a little further.

TODAY’S QUESTION :

How important is your blog traffic to you?

How often do you check your stats?

Which part of your blog traffic, the views, likes, comments or follows, is important for you personally? Which of these do you think is most important for your blog? (these could both be the same)

MY ANSWER :

How important is your blog traffic to you?

My blog traffic is tremendously important to me. It is the reason my blog exists out there in the worldwide web. If  I felt my readership and their activity (the likes, comments, follows) were not particularly significant I could just write things down in a notebook and put it away in a desk drawer.

How often do you check your stats?

My “stats checking frequency” has evolved with my blog. In the first few weeks after I launched my blog, I used to check them repeatedly with the anxiety of a first time parent repeatedly checking a new born’s diaper. Please excuse the gross analogy — it just seemed so apt.

Once I was reassured that I was getting some views and the likes, comments and follows started trickling in, I clicked on the statistics button less often. Since I have not yet monetized my blog I don’t need to keep a track of the numbers. I just check on them every so often for my personal satisfaction or validation or sense of achievement.

This question is a no-brainer : I personally love my comments section to bits. The comments are where I get to interact, ask, answer, and discuss. This is where I have made a group of like minded friends who seem like family.

As for my blog, I don’t know that much about blogging yet to know which is the most useful. Pressed for a choice I would still vote for the comments section. I would love it if someone enlightened me.

That was my bit guys, now I am simply dying to read your views.

You can leave a reply in my comments section.

Even better, why not write a post of your own.
