Blogging Insights # 56 — Your User Name

The name that you blog under is the calling card which introduces you to bloggers and readers across the globe. Some bloggers use their first name and some use their full name. Others prefer to keep their identity unknown, blogging under a cool made up name.

Do you use your own name for blogging?

If you use a psuedonym, what are your reasons for this and what led you to choose that particular name?

Is there an interesting story behind your User Name?

When I first started blogging, I was a little nervous and shy of sharing my personal life on the worldwideweb. At that time I had no social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter etc. I used WhatsApp to connect to my friends and that is not a very public platform. Hence I used the name of my blog, Salted Caramel as my name on WordPress.

Salted Caramel wasn’t really a psuedonym but it gave me the anonymity that I sought. An amusing consequence of using “Salted Caramel” as my name for blogging was that a few people addressed me as “Salted” in the comments threads.

Several  friends insisted that I should have my own name visible somewhere on my blog. When I plucked up enough courage to use my own name I decided that I should use my first name only to ensure the privacy of my family. Using just Tanya seemed a little incomplete so I added my professional title, Dr. Finally, I decided on using Dr. Tanya @Salted Caramel as my user name.

What is the story behind your user name? I would love to know.

Do compose a post of your own about this.
