Last week we discussed User Names so it follows quite naturally that we should be talking about Blog Titles this time.
TODAY’S QUESTIONS:
Why did you choose your particular blog title? Was their a reason behind it or was it just a random choice?
Do you think that a catchy, “click bait type” title does better or is a blog name that indicates the general purpose of the site more attractive for readers?
Some bloggers have the same user name and blog title? What is your opinion of this? OR Are you one of them? If so, could you share your reason for this?

Why did you choose your particular blog title? Was their a reason behind it or was it just a random choice?
When I launched my blog, I was not very sure of what it was going to be about. I did not have a niche (I still don’t, by the way). The impression that I wanted to convey was that my blog was going to be a “mixed bag” of several topics like food, health, fashion, books, movies etc. Initially , I thought of the names “Kaleidoscope” and “Pot pourri” but they didn’t really click. Around that time I tasted a salted caramel brownie for the first time — it was love at first bite. Also, I had hit upon the perfect moniker for my blog. As I say on my about page, “This blog includes diverse topics, some salty and some sweet.”
Do you think that a catchy, “click bait type” title does better or is a blog name that indicates the general purpose of the site more attractive for readers?
I am not really sure about this. A “catchy” title may catch my eye but if upon visiting the blog I am not impressed by the content I don’t think I will ever go back. In my opinion a title is only as important as the overall quality of the blog : content, layout, topics, readability etc.
Some bloggers have the same user name and blog title? What is your opinion of this? OR Are you one of them? If so, could you share your reason for this?
If it works, why not ? When I first launched my blog, my user name and blog name were the same i.e. Salted Caramel. Then I changed to my own name as you can read here.

I Can’t Believe I Did This is something I say to myself everyday. All the dumb, funny, unimaginable failures, random coincidences and even successes that make up life. I want to celebrate these because it often seems only perfection whether in cooking (all those fabulous dishes thrown at us in the media!) Or life is acceptable these days. I’m known as a good writer so a lot of posts are about my kitchen mishaps but also life away from the stove–family, history, politics, art, being a woman, growing old. This is a long way to say I feel strongly a name should personify the writer’s viewpoint that both intrigues and explains. Not sure my title does that but at least readers are warned not to expect perfection

The funnier, the better, in my opinion. Your blog and your writing reflect your personality and if your personality is composed of diverse elements then your blog will be too.

It used to be advised that the blog’s title and its URL were the same, or as close as possible. Like yours is. This is reflected still in the way platforms like WP generate suggestions for the URL based on the title chosen. I don’t know how important this is now; it’s a bit like not needing to remember people’s telephone numbers anymore.
Above all, a title ought to be memorable so people who haven’t bookmarked it can still have a go at searching for it. If the blogger has a memorable name, it’s good to use as a title. If not, it might not be found. But also along the same lines, it ought to be close to unique; not a cliché. I imagine some chosen names have a multitude of similar variations: “smell the coffee”; “wake up and smell the coffee”; “wake up, smell the coffee” etc. etc. ad infinitum.
This only applies if you want traffic of course. Some like a quieter life of writing. 🙂

For me, the title “Life and Times of a Quirky Character” has such a fond place in my heart. I titled my blog as such because I felt as though this title allowed me to blog about anything. (poetry, fiction, reflection pieces, ect.) I wasn’t sure exacatly where my blog would go so I liked that the title was open ended.

For me, I like when blogs have a clever or catchy title. Maybe not so click bait-y but more a fun title. It gives me a better sense of the author when their title is something fun or clever.

I don’t mind at all! It feels very professional and I have thought about changing my title for this very reason.

The logic behind your blog title seems similar to mine. I was clueless about topics and niches when I began and didn’t know where my blog was going to go.
