Blogging Insights # 58 — Family and Friends

TODAY’S QUESTIONS:

How supportive are your family(or friends) of your blog?

Do they do anything to help with your blogging efforts?

Do they read your work and offer a critique, if so, how do you react to it?

MY ANSWERS:

How supportive are your family (or friends) of your blog?

They are all quite supportive in that they recognise my fondness for writing. Although they never say so, I feel that they are all a little proud of my blogging endeavours.

My friends were all very encouraging. One of them set up a WordPress account to read my blog posts; later she launched her own blog and is now a very popular and successful blogger.

Do they do anything to help with your blogging efforts?

When I first launched my blog, I was not very good at computers apart from what I needed for my professional work. My daughter set up my WordPress account for me and managed the payment and plan etc. She was  the sounding board for my initial ideas etc. and also helped me figure out how to add images, links etc.

The rest of the family often provide food for thought that can become the inspiration for a post. A discussion with my son led to a series of posts about decision fatigue.

Do they read your work and offer a critique, if so, how do you react to it?

My mother was the one to read all my work. She retired as a professor of English so she offered valuable input on grammatical errors and typos. More recently, she does not visit my blog as I am mainly posting about blogging.

Okay guys, that was my bit. Now I am longing to read about your experiences.

  1. Your mother is a sweetheart! My husband and sister are the most supportive of my blog. No one else from my family even cares that I write. I don’t mind though, because it’s not for everyone.

  2. The only “friends” that seem to even notice my blog are those virtual friends that I’ve made by blogging, and yes, they are very supportive. Despite my efforts to introduce my blogging to my real-world friends and family, none of them seem to pay it much mind. I’ve kind of got my wife at least interested enough in Fibbing Friday to let me read her my answers, but that’s about it. And her input regarding questions and occasionally answers for Fibbing Friday is about the only help or critique I ever get from any family member.
