Blogging Insights # 63 More About Prompts

Today we resume last week’s discussion about writing prompts.

TODAY ‘S QUESTIONS

Before you have written a prompt post, if you read someone else’s response that has the same idea as yours, do you abandon the project, modify it, or continue as before?

We are all fans of Q&A prompts. How do they spark creativity in you?

MY ANSWERS

Before you have written a prompt post, if you read someone else’s response that has the same idea as yours, do you abandon the project, modify it, or continue as before?

This is one of my favourite topics and I have written about it previously on Blogging Insights as well as in answer to the various questions that accompany blogging awards. When I have an idea that I read on someone else’s blog first I still go full steam ahead.

I believe that there is no new topic under the sun. Everything has been written before. But…. wait for it….. it hasn’t been written by me. I believe that whenever you tackle a topic that has been discussed before, you bring your own fresh perspective to it. You might repeat ideas or opinions but they will be in your unique voice.

We are all fans of Q&A prompts. How do they spark creativity in you?

Q & A prompts worm their way into nooks and crevices of my mind. They bring forth memories buried under decades of successive thoughts and ideas. A good example of this is a Share Your World question by Melanie of sparksfromacombustiblemind . Melanie asked for the earliest news item you remembered coming across as a child. I racked my brain for a while but “no bells”. Then lightning struck and I remembered a story of a serial killer in my city that I overheard at the age of seven or eight. So many decades had passed and I had never recalled it. The question prompt, however, stimulated me to remember it in great detail as you can read here.

Okay, these were some of my ideas, now I would like to read yours’ .

You can leave a reply in my comments section. Better still, why not create a post of your own? Just remember to tag it #bloggimginsights
