Blogging Insights — What are you learning?

TODAY’S QUESTION

What are you learning (or are you still learning) from your blogging experience?

MY ANSWER

The answer to this question can be divided into two parts (in my opinion).

One kind of learning is technical knowledge of blogging. This includes setting up an account, choosing a theme , writing and posting .

When I was at this stage, three years ago, I used to learn something new every day. In fact, every time I logged into my WordPress account in those initial days, it was a “journey into the unknown”. Adding images and links to my posts, using the schedule button, all were bridges that a technophobe like me finally crossed.

A little more than a year into blogging I began this prompt, Blogging Insights. I got to pick the brains of veteran bloggers as well as newbies, who are still sharing their tips on this forum. I thank everyone for their generosity.

The second part of my answer has to do with content. The blogosphere has so many different topics. I have learned about facts, opinions and perspectives and continue to do so every time I click on the Reader.

Hey Tanya, l have learned a lot in the years since l started my blog, mostly about myself and my preferences, some from the community, a lot about people also – combined together it has helped me make some very firm and bold decisions with regards the future of my blog and my blogging experience.

    You learn a lot about traffic and communication with blogging, not all of it good, but you learn who you are and who you want to be.

    Blogging is a bit like having your first car – you have your first car and it is probably a bit of a banger and then as you become more aware of your car and your personal tastes you start to tidy the car up and make it ready for progression and advancement with repairs and so on, and finally you start to get a clearer picture of how you want your car to look and where you want it to take you and that becomes your goal. The smarter your car becomes the wiser you be come. You keep zsetting new goals.

  11. Oh Tanya, the learning never stops. Last week I spent 6 hours online with a help engineer who kindly helped me understand and wrote code for me. After all the time spent we then realized the theme I use won’t really facilitate all his hard work. I was frantic to start with, looking at new themes and pondering starting it all over again. All this while creating recipes, content, understanding social media on top of learning photography for my food shots, attending SEO online classes (I’m none the wiser on that count) and signing up to things all in the hope to understand and make my blog a nicer place to drop by.

    What began two years ago as a personal challenge to try something new as well as show the son an heir mammy is more than just the glorified maid. LOL! Has taken on a life of its own with a schedule and a plan. I work 6 hours a day, 6 days a week for the love of it (because I don’t have revenue from the blog). That’s another ball game altogether. Which has my mind wondering about upgrading to a business plan just so I can have plugins.

    By last Sunday I was overwhelmed with all the facets of blogging until I read a lovely insightful article by a fellow blogger here on WP, Renard Moreou, Are you satisfied with the way your blog turned out? It made me take a breath and once again realize Rome wasn’t built in a day. What matters is the enjoyment of the process and the little bits you learn along the way. Not to mention all the wonderful articles and inspiration you gain from the community.

    Since I began this journey two years ago, I have learnt about design, social media, photography, coding, writing, podcasting, vlogging and so much more. From other bloggers, I have gained knowledge in technology, books, art, wellbeing, cookery, history, styling, photography to mention a few. But most importantly encouragement and guidance. Blogging is a process and over time it changes as we ourselves grow. As we say in Ireland, “keep it lit lads”. x
