SYW – Valentine’s Day

This week Melanie, our gracious host asks her some love themed questions on SYW

Questions;

Which traditional Valentine’s Day gift would you rather receive: chocolates, flowers, or a card with a personal message?

All of the above. I am greedy. He he.

Do you like romantic movies?

I absolutely love them. In the super busy years of my life, rom coms were the only kind of movies I would watch. Now with slightly more time on my hands I watch other genres too.

Is Valentine’s Day only about romantic love? Or is it a good occasion to celebrate friendship as well?

At the risk of sounding like a kill joy I have to admit that I have never been too fond of celebrating these “days” like Valentine’s or Mother’s or Father’s Day. I think you can show your appreciation of people whenever you like and whenever you feel that it is needed.

Coming back to Valentine’s, I think it need not be restricted to romantic love. My brother does not have a significant other in his life at present but he loves celebrating Valentine’s Day. He buys flowers and chocolates for our mother, me, and my daughter.

How do you deal with unwanted romantic attention?

Nip the unwanted attention in the bud. Don’t let it get romantic!

  1. Thanks so much Tanya for Sharing Your World! It sounds like you have the kind of Valentine “celebrations’ that suit you best! 🙂 It’s one of those days that has become over commercialized and I think lost its meaning a great deal. But like Christmas (for folks like myself), it is what one makes of it. Your brother sounds like a very nice man and that was sweet of him to do for your family! And Sadje’s rose photo is just exquisite! Have a wonderful week! 🙂

    1. Thank you for the very topical questions Melanie.
I am afraid celebration days ,especially Valentine’s ,have become a marketing opportunity for businesses. I belong to the generation that made cards ourselves for extra special people.

My brother is indeed a wonderful and very generous person. His views on Valentine’s and other ” Days” are completely different from mine. He loves the opportunity of giving presents.

      1. I’m in ‘your’ generation Tanya, and remember making hand made cards too. I still design them sometimes too. It was just a simpler time back then I think. Thanks for your comments! 🙂

      2. Now young people make memes so I guess it’s sort of the same concept.
But, like you, I sometimes miss the simpler times.
I am sure that is how are parents felt and their parents before them.

It’s good to share memories with one’s own generation.
        Thanks for the questions. 💐
