“H” is for Human nature — A to Z Blogging Challenge 2022

My topic for this year’s A to Z Blogging Challenge is

Elements of Crime Fiction.

I am a great fan of detective novels. Cosy mysteries, police procedurals, psychological thrillers– you name it. For the month of April I am going to try and break up crime fiction into its components and see what makes it tick.

My topic for today is :

Human Nature

Greed, hatred, fear, love, lust; all these are aspects of human nature that can lead to crime. Small wonder then that human nature and psychology play an important part in crime fiction.

I have read and re-read Agatha Christie’s books not just for the story but for the insights into human psychology that they provide. Miss Marple with her village parallels to people in crime settings and Hercule Poirot with his elucidation of the psychological moment are examples of this.

The role of psychology and human nature in crime fiction has grown. In modern times there is a genre called the “psychological thriller”. Gillian Flynn with ‘Gone Girl’, Paula Hawkins with ‘The Girl On The Train’ and Alex Michaelides with ‘The Silent Patient’ have tied mental trauma and psychiatric disorders to crime.

  1. I wasn’t a fan of Agatha Christie but I have read a couple of crime novels belonging to hubby: Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books. He’s a good writer and his books have led to movies and a television series (Netflix, I think).

      1. I have to read both those books!
I’m currently reading a rom-com but the mystery/murder mystery book I read which was last week- One of Us is Lying and it’s sequel One of Us is Next. They were pretty good! The second book had a stronger plot and motive, is my opinion! The first book was another unique genre of murder mystery. Both are well written! But it’s definitely more YA

Oo what are these two books about?

        Also are you on Goodreads?
        This is me-
