My topic for this year’s A to Z Blogging Challenge is
Elements of Crime Fiction.
I am a great fan of detective novels. Cosy mysteries, police procedurals, psychological thrillers– you name it. For the month of April I am going to try and break up crime fiction into its components and see what makes it tick.
My topic for today is :
Interviews
Edgar Allan Poe with his ‘Murders At The Rue Morgue’ is credited to be the first mystery writer in the English language. From his time to the present day thrillers set in the lockdown, one institution remains vital to crime solving : the Interview.
Statements from eyewitnesses and from the accused are always carefully recorded by official as well as private investigators. Background to find out the motive of the crime is also based on interviews.

Where would we be without these accounts

I knew there was a reason I like Poe as a youngster. I can still recite parts of his stories from memory.

Parts of Poe can get somewhat dark e.g. Tell Tale Heart or The House of Usher.
