TODAY’S QUOTE
“Blogging is to writing what extreme sports are to athletics: more free-form, more accident-prone, less formal, more alive. It is, in many ways, writing out loud.”
Andrew Sullivan
MY THOUGHTS
Having been extremely sedentary all my liffe, I wouldn’t know the first thing about extreme sports or athletics. I can’t make any comparisons or draw any parallels there.
Free form, yes; your blog can become whatever you make it. It can be a place where your friends gather and comment on what you post. I have luckily found such a community of friends and they are my virtual support group.
Blogging is definitely less formal and more alive than traditional forms of writing. It is the interactive quality of blogging that makes it so. I never tire of saying that discussions begun in the comments thread can end up being more interesting than the blog post that sparked them.
Blogging is definitely quite “accident prone” if you take it to include the glitches prevalent in WordPress and other blogging platforms. Some “accidents” can be of one’s own making. I remember writing what I felt was one of my best efforts. For some reason I did not post it immediately. Imagine my chagrin when I accidentally deleted the draft. This was after an interval of several weeks so I couldn’t remember all of it and I mourn it to this day. Finally, I completely agree with Andrew Sullivan that blogging is “writing out loud” since my style of writing has always been informal and conersational.
What do you think? I would love to know.

I just find it kind of funny to compare extreme sports to blogging, lol

Um … *conversational 😉
Google really killed comment awareness via its segregation into “dofollow” versus “nofollow” links. Yet I no longer pay attention to Google, so my awareness remains (more or less) intact.
All of that said, I no longer see much reason to comment, insofar as everyone can publish a blog and *LINK* … here a ping, there a ping, everywhere a pingback!
