5 “Cheat Day” Foods

In current times, the concept of a Chrat Day has become quite popular among dieters. They “eat clean” six days a week and then eat their favourite high calorie “forbidden ” food on the seventh.

I personally do not like this idea very much. It is far more enjoyable to have a little of what you fancy when you want rather than going on an all out binge on one particular day . Nevertheless, here is a list of my “cheat” foods :


As visitors to my blog know, I am very fond of cake. I love most kinds barring a few overly creamy kind. A (generous) slice of cake, a huge mug of tea or coffee, a good book, and I’m in heaven.

White sauce

This thick, flavourful sauce turns anything into comfort food. Add to it pasta, vegetables or your choice of meat and you have a delicious meal. Unfortunately, it is packed full of calories.

Naan bread

There are several different kinds of Naan and I love them all. They turn any meal into a gourmet experience. Although I like them paired with curry, I love them with tea.


This is comfort or cheat food at its best. As a meal or a snack, or as picnic or party food in smaller sizes, I love all kinds.

Puff pastry

Puff pastry can take fruit, vegetables or meat to the next level.

  1. I do not subscribe to the “Chrat Day.” I personally over indulge in the foods I love if I completely deprive myself all week. Moderation via plate size has been my best “control” mechanism (and no seconds). As for the ask, love Naan, actually I love all bread especially with butter or honey. Pasta (who cares about the sauces), boil it, fry it, add butter and herbs or pesto. All desserts, add a little fruit and it is all the better.

  2. You should be glad to know that quiche is NOT a cheat food. It’s right in the middle of Owen’s weight watcher diet as are Frittatas’ which are actually considered a diet food! Naan is also a very low calorie bread. If it weren’t so much work, we’d make it more often. It has almost no fat or sugar, so as bread goes, this is as good as it gets.

    I hope I didn’t ruin your “cheat” food 😀 But you know, other than cake, your cheat food isn’t actually cheating.

    1. You didn’t “ruin” my cheat foods.
      Of course low calorie versions of any food would not count as cheat foods.

      The original forms of most of my list are relatively high calorie so I restrict them.
      Quiche has cream which I don’t regularly take.
      Again, the naan bread popular in our parts is made with refined flour and brushed with ghee when it’s fresh from the oven.
      If you can point me in the direction of low calorie (but yummy) versions of my favourites I would be very grateful.
