TODAY’S QUOTE

isaac asimov writing quote

” Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers.”

— Isaac Asimov.

MY THOUGHTS

For last week’s blogging insights we discussed writing books or lack thereof. Lots of really useful advice poured in from bloggers who are also published authors. A tip that recurred in several posts was that good writing is all about good editing and it is difficult to have one without the other.

Continuing on this theme I found today’s quote to illustrate the opposite side in this debate. So far, all the writing that I have done has eessentially been “thinking through my fingers”. Most(no, all) of what I post is my unfiltered unedited thoughts. But I think to make my writing more effective I should “think twice” and go over what I write at least once.

What do you think? How do you operate? I would love to know.

  1. I think both have a place. Unfiltered writing offers unfiltered thoughts and ideas. To me, this is we’re the really good stuff lies. But, editing can clean up the crap. Like In this comment, is it lies or lyes or lye or? What about that random capital letter in the middle of a sentence?
Don’t cover up the good stuff – just clean it up.

  3. Drat, replied then lost it…I have a problem
in that I usually write on my Dashboard, then have to leave it many times to check out another source or quote, increasing the number of Save As’s. I suspect Word Press rations the number of such come and go visits. And I have been known to call back and correct a typo I missed before posting. Since I too write more from the gut than from the head, some posts are better than others–or I should say some are worse. I so admire blogger who can sit back impassioned and piut the arguments together correctly. Then too, my posts would be better if I knew how to work this thing. I was born too late for computers and blogging.
