Blogging Insights NF # 54

“We must not only blog what is popular. We must blog about our passions, no matter how quaint. This is true empowerment.” Su Layug

MY THOUGHTS

When I first thought about blogging, I viewed lots of “How To” videos on YouTube. Nearly all of them recommended having a particular niche, that is, choosing a topic or theme to write about. To date, I remain clueless regarding my niche and call my blog a lifestyle blog.

I began by writing about food, posts about exotic cakes and fancy coffee. These brought me comments and follows from food bloggers but after some time I wanted to write something else.

My fancy turned to personal development/self help and I wrote on decision fatigue, productivity etc and these were greatly appreciated. I also wrote several book and movie reviews which hardly anyone read but I loved writing them.

After a couple of years into blogging, I wrote posts about the art of blogging and these finally turned into this prompt. I have realised that I love writing/talking about blogging most.

Going back to today’s quote, I agree with it wholeheartedly but I would like to add two caveats :

1. It is also fine for your ‘quaint passions’ to change over time.

2. This quote applies only to personal/hobby blogging.

What do you think?

  1. Blogging for me is about writing, because that’s what my passion is. I’ve been writing since I was eight years old. I still remember the petite typewriter Mum and Dad brought me as a gift. I take part in writing prompts because it keeps me writing.

  2. I agree with the quote WITH your caveats. Passions change, interest change, intentions change, thus so should your blog. I believe most people who blog do so out of a passion for writting (concurring with writeravenclaw). If someone told me I enjoy writing I would argue with them, but why lie to myself.

  3. Feels like you written words from my mind, same condition is with me started blog didn’t know what to do so started lifestyle niche and blogging than turned to self-help and development.
