Your About Page — Blogging Insights 3.0 # 5

TODAY’S QUESTIONS:

How important is the About page of your blog?

What constitutes the perfect About page?

How often do you think an About page needs to be updated, and when is the last time you updated yours’ ?

MY ANSWERS:

How important is the About page of your blog?

Your About page is your calling card. It tells people who you are and what your blog is about. When I read a post that I like, I like to visit the blog’s About page to determine if I will find more useful content.

What constitutes the perfect About page?

This is a bit like asking, “What is the perfect blog or the perfect blog post like?” Your About page should convey a general idea about your blog. Apart from that , it can be as varied as there are blogs on the Web.

How often do you think an About page needs to be updated, and when is the last time you updated yours’?

Before answering this question, I went through my About page. It is dated January 2018. On going through it, I found that it holds as true today as it did five years ago and I don’t need to change it. Maybe I have not evolved as a blogger and still stand where I was when I launched my blog.

What are your views? I would love to know

  1. I agree with you. I think the About page is very important. It is a shame that many bloggers don’t bother to have one. Even a blog that is mostly for photos ought to have a page for the blog author to explain what the blog is meant to be about.

  2. I have an about me page, but it wasn’t called “about me” so I fixed it. I have all the people write for Serendipity listed as writers even when they haven’t written in a while. I read mine. I could shorten it a little, but it’s really okay. I think I wrote it like five years ago?

  3. I didn’t know what my about page was. But looking at it today, I see that I wrote a resume. And realizing that, I understand that I wrote my about page as a reference, a source of credibility. And today I changed it. I changed it by degrees. It is less resume and more personal overview. But at its root I think is still the desire for credibility.
