Blogging Insights # 31 – Posts about the Pandemic

Posts about the pandemic feature prominently on many (if not most) blogs these daysBlogs by definition are chronicles of the lives and views of their authors and the world around them. It is no wonder that the pandemic features prominently in many (if not most) posts today.

Articles and posts about corona virus/COVID-19 could be seen dotted about the internet since the beginning of this year. These were mostly articles about health, epidemiology and the environment.

In the beginning , Covid-19 had not spread across continents. It reached the status of pandemic a couple of months ago and turned our lives topsy turvy. The lockdowns and social distancing that followed are things that we have never experienced before.

The pandemic has changed the world as we knew it . It has deeply touched the lives of all , even those who have not been infected. In today’s Blogging Insights we discuss how it has affected our blogs and blogging.

QUESTIONS 1. How frequently do you post about the pandemic? Please share links to a couple of your “pandemic posts” that you particularly like. If you have not written anything about Coronavirus/COVID-19 (seems unbelievable) what are your reasons for this?

2. What kind of “posts about the pandemic” do you like to read? (If you don’t, then please tell us why?)

3. How have you and your blog adapted to “the new normal” ? 4. Have you seen any change in your blog stats during the pandemic? Also, are you posting more or less than you used to?

MY ANSWERS

1.How frequently do you post about the pandemic? Please share links to a couple of your “pandemic posts” that you particularly like. If you have not written anything about Coronavirus/COVID-19 (seems unbelievable) what are your reasons for this?

If I were to give you a number, I would probably say at least once a week. In reality, it sometimes becomes much more. When I write a post in response to a writing prompt, I usually end up writing about the pandemic as you can see here. Even when I answer the Q&A type posts such as Share Your World or the questions associated with blogging awards, I inadvertently bring up COVID-19 and its effects on our lives.

I think it is very difficult to avoid writing or talking about it since it is something that is at the top of everyone’s minds these days. I wrote a number of posts particularly about the impact of this infection on our lives . You can read some here: https://saltedcaramel670.wordpress.com/2020/03/26/7-ways-to-deal-with-coronavirus-covid-19-related-anxiety-stress/ https://saltedcaramel670.wordpress.com/2020/03/31/working-from-home-and-caring-for-children-during-coronavirus-covid-19-lockdown-some-easy-tips-tricks/

2.What kind of “posts about the pandemic” do you like to read? (If you don’t, then please tell us why?)

When the lockdown first began I was interested in seeing how other people were coping with things in their countries and communities so I read some daily log type posts, but these grew tedious after the first few weeks. I also read motivational and “how to” type posts about how to stay cheerful and usefully occupied. Here is are a couple of posts about coronavirus/COVID-19 that I liked : Divided We Fall…Ill https://www.michellescrazybusylife.net/index.php/2020/03/28/importance-of-quarantine-social-distancing-and-using-common-sense/

These days I am reading about  the post-pandemic world, how the world is expected to change and how we should prepare for this.

3.How have you and your blog adapted to “the new normal” ? I am trying to stay busy and cheerful . For my blog, I am exploring new possibilities , new topics and categories. A couple of weeks ago I began a new tag / prompt called 5 Things Tuesday. It is something that has been done before on other blogs but I have started posting it regularly on my blog for the first time. I am having a lot of fun with it.       4.Have you seen any change in your blog stats during the pandemic? Also, are you posting more or less than you used to? There has been no major change; the number of people who follow my blog has however increased. People are at home during the lockdown and probably have more time to spend on the blogosphere. The lockdown/pandemic coincided with a busy period  in my personal life  so my “posting frequency” is more or less the same. i used to do a lot of reading, commenting and even posting on my phone while I was out and about. During the lockdown, this part of my blogging time has naturally decreased.   Okay, that was my bit; now I would love to read your views. You could share them in the comments section below. Better still, why not write a post of your own about this? Just remember to tag it #blogginginsights

  1. Other than this phrase “What kind of “posts about the pandemic” do you like to read?” which seems a trifle out of place, great post. Up tomorrow. I’ve been really short of material and suddenly I’ve got so much stuff I’m having trouble finding room for everything, especially since so much of it is quite timely. I move another post from tomorrow to the day after, because THIS is timely too.

Nothing like “interesting times” to bring the bloggers out of hiding!

  2. After following this post around, I realized I had NO idea where it began and thus I cited everyone and made my own “I have no idea where this came from” logo! It really IS a mad, mad, mad, mad world. And I just talked to my shrink and she says she is sure the virus will mutate to a bad cold over time. My problem is “HOW MUCH TIME?” Months? Years? Decades? A few centuries?

I write about the pandemic when it is making me sad or angry or depressed. So I truly have no idea how many times I have done so. Great question though.

    2. What kind of “posts about the pandemic” do you like to read? (If you don’t, then pleasetell us why?) I like to read posts that give ideas how to survive in the chaos that is our new normal.

    3. How have you and your blog adapted to “the new normal” ? My blog was originally all about finding gratitude while recovering from PTSD. Now it is whatever is going on in my life or answers to smart bloggers questions. It is a real relief for me when trying to maintain some sort of normalcy which blogging provides.

    4. Have you seen any change in your blog stats during the pandemic? Also, are you posting more or less than you used to? I try to post daily as I did before. I only see notices when someone follows me. I try to go back to their site to see what they write about. Even in times when I wasn’t up to writing a blog I tried to read as many as I could focus on. There is such variety to enjoy. As I am newly retired I have lots and lots of time on my hands.
