TODAY’S QUOTE;
” The first thing you learn when you’re blogging is that people are one click away from leaving you. So you’ve got to get to the point, you can’t waste people’s time, you’ve got to give them some value for their limited attention span. ~ Alex Tabarrok
MY THOUGHTS:
On the blogosphere and on the Internet in general, there are hundreds of posts clamouring for your attention at any given moment in time. Furthermore, most people read posts on their smartphone while on the go. During your work day, while out shopping or even at home with a million things to do, what you read needs to fulfil some basic criteria.
In my opinion, these are :
1. Attention grabbing
2. Short, concise, precise
3. Interesting
4. Useful
I agree with this quote completely where it comes to writing for other people or writing to be read. Many with personal blogs will argue that since they write for themselves this does not apply to them, and I agree.
Maybe I should not have used this quote since most of my blogging community are personal bloggers. Well, now it’s done, let’s see what you think.

Thanks foe taking my points further.
When I first started blogging I just wanted to write and all these “notions” about readability etc were not really on my mind either.

I have to agree. As a general rule I try to be entertaining or interesting. I limit each blog to 500-650 words.

I used to write long posts when I began but found that people didn’t read them.
So I started dividing them up.
The most popular kind of post I have found is one that in print publishing would only be one paragraph.

I think you’ve nailed it this time. That’s pretty much IT. I don’t know about you, but I never trust anyone who says they “blog for themselves.” If that were true why are they blogging at all? Why not keep a diary? I think if you are blogging you anticipate people reading it.

Even personal or hobby bloggers have a certain responsibility towards their readers.
