TODAY’S QUESTION:
How important is your Gravatar to your blogging personna?
MY ANSWER:
Your Gravatar(globally recognised avatar), that little image that accompanies your posts, likes, comments etc is like your calling card. It announces you to the virtual world
There are many different kinds of Gravatars. Your gravatar can be a portrait, a photo , a graphic; you name it.
I believe that your Gravatar or profile picture is a very important part of your blogging personna. It is the first thing that people notice about you and your blog.
Your profile photo is representative of you and your blog / website. Using a good recent photo of yourself is a good idea.
Some people like to remain anonymous on the blogosphere and do not post their photo as their avatar. This is useful if you post about controversial issues. Or you might be a ‘private’ person and prefer not to share your photo.
When I first launched my blog, I was not very comfortable using my photo as my Gravatar. Instead, I used a picture of a cup containing a few pieces of salted caramel candy.
Later, I read somewhere that people are more comfortable interacting with you if they can see your real life picture. A few months down the line, I put up a photo of myself. That photograph has been my Gravatar since 2018. Recently, I have been thinking about updating it. In fact, that is what prompted this post.
What do you think? I would love to know.

Welcome back Doc T. Gravatar are an interesting subject. I agree with everythign you said but prefer to let my childish side take over. I feel the cartoon I use (Calvin & Hobbs) very well represents me. At work the Gravatar I use on Teams is “Wilson” from the old TV show Tool Time again because it best suits my personality and there was a bit on an inside joke. I say have fun with it.

That’s the best thing– having fun, and your Gravatar need not be an exception.

I think the most important point about a Gravatar is to ensure you link your blog and any social media accounts you have to it. So many bloggers fail to link their blogs to it, so when somebody clicks on it, it takes you nowhere. I’ve had a few bloggers leave me great comments and I’ve wanted to return the favour, but when I click on their Gravatar, it’s empty.
